2017 Stags’ Leap Napa Valley Petite Sirah
The 2017 Petite Sirah is vibrant and expressive with a cornucopia of blackberry, blueberry and black cherry fruits interwoven with floral musky notes of violet and jasmine, alongside more savory herbal notes of white pepper, earthy loam and crushed rock mineral notes. On the palate, juicy flavors of creamy cassis, macerated blackberry, cherry kirsch, black licorice and peppery plum envelope the rich, saturated mouthfeel, followed by a subtle black gunpowder tea, allspice and black pepper note from the oak ageing integrates seamlessly. This wine is intense and robust with velvety tannins and a generous lengthy finish, with acidity supporting throughout, encouraging you to enjoy it now, but has the depth and complexity to age for many years to come.

ABOUT THE WINERY
Stag’s Leap Winery is popular with Hollywood and is located in an intimate valley within Napa Valley. It’s known as a place of sincere natural beauty and is a prominent Vineyard to visit. Grapes were originally planted on the property in 1872 and the history of the estate is riddled with interesting stories like mischievous monkeys, “shady” dealings and ghosts.
The origin of the name “Stags’ Leap” is not well documented. Most common oral histories attribute it to a native Wappo legend of a stag leaping to escape hunters or leaping to its death in preference to being hunted down. Another version refers to a stag that eluded an entire generation of hunters, always leaping and vanishing at the last moment.
